4 Step Cold Fighting Regimen

This 4 step cold fighting regimen is an inexpensive, homeopathic method that can help shorten a cold or stop it in its tracks.

4 step cold fighting regimen
These 4 step cold fighting regimen was shared with me by sister-in-law Twyla, a nurse who also is very knowledgeable about natural and homeopathic methods to get well and stay well.

Twyla crafted this 4-step cold fighting regimin based on studies and health articles largely from Dr. Mercola, who has the world’s #1 health website www.mercola.com. Both Twyla’s experience and our experience has been that IF started early, this 4 step regimen can shorten the duration of a cold AND stop a cold in its tracks.

Disclaimer: This is not intended to be medical advice. This is a method that works for us, but each person should do his/her own research and check with his/her medical docctor before self treating.

These 4 steps are most likely to be effective IF STARTED IMMEDIATELY~at the first sign of cold symptoms or at least within 24 hours of the onset of symptoms.

4 Step Cold Fighting Regimen

  1. Sinus rinse up to 3 x a day (read this article on salt water rinses and cold prevention)
  2. hydrogen peroxide each ear–2 minutes (read this article on hydrogen peroxide for colds & flu)
  3. zinc (zicam or similar) 3 x per day (read here on how zinc can help fight colds and flu)
  4. vitamin C & D solution ( I use Emergen-C) ~3 x day (read the first thing to do when a cold strikes)

Sinus Rinse: The sinus rinse that I recommend is NeilMed Sinus Rinse. My ENT recommended this to me for post sinus surgery care, and I’ve used it ever since. There are neti pots and several other brands, but I am sold on this one. Based on the amazon reviews, most others are similarly sold on this product. Note: Distilled water should be used for sinus rinses~never tap water.

Hydrogen Peroxide: According to Dr. Mercola, “Many patients…have had remarkable results in curing colds and flu within 12 to 14 hours when administering a few drops of three percent hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) into each ear.” A simple capful of hydrogen peroxide is just enough to fill the ear canal, and 2 minutes per ear is our regimin.

Zinc: I prefer Zicam and always keep a bottle on hand. Again, the amazon reviews indicate that others have good results with zicam IF it is started immediately upon onset of cold symptoms; otherwise, it won’t work.

Vitamin C supplement: Emergen-C and Airborne are probably the 2 most popular. I prefer Emergen-C Immune Plus with vitamin D, as D is extremely important to preventing and fighting colds and flu. I’ve found that unless I have coupons, the best price for Emergen-C is amazon, but I buy it when I’m NOT sick to have on hand for when I do get sick. If you get sick, run to the nearest drugstore so that you can start the treatment asap.

This 4 step regimin really has helped my family. Just this week, my husband began having sinus drainage, sore throat, and overall malaise. We started the 4 steps within the 24 hour window of symptoms, and he only felt truly sick for 2 days. In fact, today is day 5, and he is back in the saddle with virtually no more symptoms.

I started the 4-step regimin several months ago when I began getting cold sympotms, and the next day, they were gone. This isn’t scientific; it is just my experience.

I hope this might be helpful in stopping or shortening a cold for some of you. If so, please let me hear back. It is always helpful to read reviews and hear from others’ experiences. As always, thanks so much for stopping by. Be blessed, and stay savvy!!!
