Paula Deen’s Famous Chessmen Banana Pudding

I remember the first time I tasted this version of banana pudding. I immediately asked “who made this?” and got the recipe that very night. I’ve made this every time banana pudding is on the menu. It is literally always a hit. I’ve never served it when someone didn’t ask for the recipe. It is a “twist on traditional” banana pudding that most people absolutely love.

 What is Traditional Banana Pudding?

Traditional banana pudding typically has a boiled custard base that contains eggs. In other words, “real” banana pudding is homemade pudding~not the easy Jell-O pudding (which I actually prefer to homemade). Vanilla wafer cookies usually top traditional banana pudding recipes.

How does Chessmen Banana Pudding differ from regular Banana pudding?

This version of Chessmen banana pudding uses simple, easy-to-assemble ingredients that require no cooking. Milk, instant pudding, cream cheese, condensed milk, bananas, and Chessmen cookies. This recipe is much more time efficient than making traditional banana pudding, and tastes even better!

Is it easy to make Chessmen Banana Pudding?

Absolutley! This dessert only has a handful of ingredients  and a very simple process. This recipe uses French vanilla instant pudding to make this process as smooth and easy as possible. For the most part, this recipe is just about the assembly. In a short amount of time, you should be able to make this delicious and homemade-tasting banana pudding!

How do you serve Chessmen Banana Pudding?

You can serve this Chessmen Banana Pudding by scooping ut out square by square. Having the Chessmen cookies as guidelines for serving makes it SO easy to serve up this dish to family and friends. You are going to want to bring this banana pudding to your next cookout!

What are Chessmen cookies?

Pepperidge Farms Chessmen cookies are butter cookies that have chessmen on them. Seasonal cookies will often have flowers and other cookie stamps. In this post, you’ll get to see the “Spring version” of the cookies with flowers and such:-). During the Fall/Winter season, you’ll likely find a holiday version of the cookies as well.

Can you make Chessmen Banana Pudding Dessert Ahead?

This dessert is perfect to make a day ahead, especially if you prefer softer cookies. It can be put together in less than 15 minutes and chilled and ready to serve after several hours in the fridge. In the video at the top of the page, I show how easy it is as I make it for a party (one day ahead).

  5. This looks like a very cool and refreshing summer desert! But I did notice that the calories per serving or 888. I wonder how much the calories would be cut down if I use sugar-free vanilla instant putting and low fat cream cheese, as well as fat free condensed milk and skim milk?
Honestly, when I make a recipe and use these ingredients, I can’t notice a difference in the overall flavor.
