“Shake up” your morning coffee routine with this “Better-Than-Starbucks” Easy Shaken Oat Milk Latte!
Now that summer is in full swing, I have found myself craving something cold and refreshing to satisfy my caffeine craving. Enter the shaken oat milk latte!
An Easy, Delicious Pick-Me-Up
As many of you know, Starbucks introduced this popular drink as part of their spring menu in March of this year. Although their version is delicious, I was inspired to create my own version of this refreshing treat. While my version is a fraction of the cost of Starbucks ‘ drink, it sacrifices NONE of the flavors! In fact, I even think it tastes even better than the original Starbucks version! The best part about my version is that you can stay in your pj’s while you sip it!
Do I Have to Use Espresso?
This recipe calls for espresso because its strong, bitter flavor balances out the creaminess of the oat milk and the sweetness of the brown sugar syrup. However, if you do not have an espresso machine, just substitute strong coffee! I recommend using your favorite cold brew or the strongest roast you have in your pantry.
How To Make Your Own Brown Sugar Syrup
The star of this refreshing treat is most definitely the brown sugar syrup. Brown sugar syrup is just a simple syrup made with brown sugar instead of white sugar. The brown sugar syrup adds a rich, nutty, caramel-y flavor that just cannot be topped! You can find brown sugar syrup at the grocery store, but chances are you have all the ingredients for this syrup right in your pantry! All you need is brown sugar, water, and salt. You can also add ingredients like vanilla extract, cinnamon, or nutmeg to add a unique flavor to this sweet syrup.
A Customizable Treat
When it comes to coffee, everyone likes theirs a little differently. If you prefer yours on the sweeter side, be more generous with the brown sugar syrup. If you like your coffee creamier, add a little more oat milk. Remember, the beauty of this recipe is how easy and versatile it is! Do not be afraid to play around with the proportions until you find the “blend” that best suits your tastebuds!

- 1 jar with a lid
- 2 shots of espresso (or your favorite cold brew or strong coffee)
- brown sugar syrup to taste
- oat milk (I love Califia Farms Oat Milk)
- Fill your jar about halfway up with ice.
- Brew your espresso or strong coffee and pour over ice.
- Add brown sugar syrup to taste.
- Secure lid on the jar and shake, shake shake!
- Fill the rest of the jar with oat milk, and give it a stir.

- 1 cup brown sugar (light or dark)
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
1. Stir together the brown sugar, water, and salt in a saucepan and bring to a simmer.
