I share how to get a smooth, fuzz free, and exfoliated face by dermaplaning at home with a DIY derma planing tool (either electronic or disposable).
The Electronic Dermaplaning Device
When I spotted the Sonicsmooth (by Michael Todd Beauty) in Ulta, I immediately searched reviews on my iPhone while in the store. I’ve had dermaplaning done by aestheticians and have always loved the results. Based on the reviews that I’ve read, dermaplaning at home is a universally positive experience by most users.
Who gets dermaplaning and why?
Gals like me who have excessive facial vellus hair (aka peach fuzz) and/or dry flaky skin typically love the effects of dermaplaning. I have massive peach fuzz and often have dry skin flakes (depending upon the season and whether my Retin-A is balanced). I consider dermaplaning very effective, and doing it at home is hugely appealing to me.
What is the best dermaplane device for at home use?
I personally use the Michael Todd professional grade dermaplaning device designed for in-home use. It is excellent and does the job. There are also several other good devices you might want to review when shopping for one. I link to several of the top rated devices below.
What is included in the Sonicsmooth Dermaplaning System?
The Sonicsmooth System includes two months of extra blades and skin prep. I used the skin prep a few times, but now, I just dermaplane and follow with my favorite calming toner (linked to below).
How does dermaplaning work?
I can only address specifically the sonicsmooth device that I have. It uses advanced sonic wave technology (with 3 speeds) along with a safety edge blade to painlessly remove facial vellus hair (peach fuzz) and tiny dead skin cells.
What results can I expect from DIY dermaplaning?
For all DIY dermaplaning tools, the intended results are a painless removal of facial hair and dry skin cells. My experience after using the Michael Todd is that I have little to no peach fuzz, and my skin feels smoother and more ready to receive foundation and makeup products.
How quickly does dermaplaning show results?
After one use with the Michael Todd unit, I saw immediate results. I was able to remove an area of dry skin and a sizable amount of peach fuzz. My skin was noticeably smoother and had a slight glow (whereas it had been dull and “pasty” before the treatment).
I love having my own dermaplane system at home and consider it just as effective as an aesthetician’s dermaplaning. I also bought a few disposable dermaplane blades that I use when I travel.

Where to purchase?
I link below to several dermaplane devices that get good reviews, along with some good disposable ones. Also, I include a link to the toner that I love to use for calming and removing residue after dermaplaning.
If any of you try the Sonicsmooth, please let me hear how you like it! It really is one of my new favorite beauty tools! As always, thanks so much for stopping by. Have a joyful, blessed & savvy day!!!
