Homemade croutons can totally make a salad! This is especially true for a Caesar salad where croutons are one of the main ingredients. But you don’t have to just add these to a Caesar salad, you can add them into any salad of your choice! Adding these to your salad will TOTALLY change your salad game.

What type of bread is best for homemade croutons?

Personally, I love the Rosemary Parmesan Bakery Bread from Costco for croutons. Using this bread adds so much fun flavor to the croutons that normal bread wouldn’t. Even though you can really use any bread for croutons, this one I highly recommend for making homemade croutons. I promise they will have the BEST flavor.

How long should you leave the bread out before making them?

If you make sure the bread is a few days old then it should be perfect. Also, leaving it out for one day will do the trick. One of the reasons why you do this is to make sure the bread gets dry enough to make good croutons. Obviously, you want your croutons to be crunchy and crisp, not soft. By leaving the bread out, you will get the best and crunchiest results!

What kinds of salads do homemade croutons go well with?

As mentioned before, homemade croutons are absolutely fabulous on a Caesar salad. It can make or break your Caesar salad depending on the croutons you have. Of course, you can put croutons on any salad you want. They give a delicious extra crunch to anything that you want. No matter what kind of salad you add it to, it will definitely bring some more interest and fun to your salad. You can also add croutons to other dishes, including in a tomato soup!

What do you season homemade croutons with?

As you would expect, the bread from Costco adds some flavor with the parmesan. If you use less flavorful bread, you might want to add some more seasoning. For this recipe, I used extra virgin olive oil and garlic salt. Without a doubt, these two ingredients will add a lot of flavor to the croutons, making them perfectly flavor for your salad.

Are homemade croutons better for you?

While it is hard to say if store-bought croutons are worse for you than homemade croutons, for these you are able to control what is in them. In truth, you don’t really know how much oil or preservatives are in the store-bought croutons. Therefore, these croutons at least are able to be controlled by what you want/need in them. Either way, they sure are more delicious than the store-bought!

Let me know how you enjoy this fabulous dish in the comments below. As always, thank you so much for stopping by. Be blessed and stay savvy!!!
