Why I Upgraded My Instant Pot

I’ve long been of fan of the Instant Pot and had used this best selling original model for years (and LOVED it). But when air frying became a thing, I knew I needed to upgrade to this Instant Pot Duo Crisp + Air Fryer that I have now. It is the one that I now own, love, and use almost every single day. When I tell you that if there has ever been an upgrade that is worth it, this one is it. The air fryer version is simply a game changer. I’ve never loved an appliance like I love this one lol.

The Instant Pot Duo Crisp + Air Fryer Has 11 Functions

The Instant Pot Duo Crisp + Air Fryer is a workhorse that performs 11 kitchen tasks. With this one appliance, you can choose between any of the following: bake, roast, dehydrate, air fry, roast, broil, sauté, pressure cook, sous vide, slow cook, and steam. Literally no other appliance that I know of can do all of this (and do it well).

One of my favorite recipes is this Mississippi Roast with Crispy Dale’s Potatoes, which is now SO much easier with the air fryer lid. I can crisp potatoes easily in the air fryer basket without having to heat the oven broiler.

The Instant Pot Air Fryer Lid is Easy to Use, Detach, Clean and Store

If you are familiar with the original Instant Pot and how to use it to pressure cook, you are more than halfway to mastering the updated Duo Crisp version. The air fryer is SO easy to use, as the entire process is basically placing food into the air fry basket and using the air fryer lid to do its magic.

The Instant Pot + Air Fryer is my second attempt at a pressure cooking + air frying machine. My first purchase was the Ninja Foodie. This one did air fry just fine, but the air fry lid would NOT DETACH. This is ridiculous, in my opinion, and it soon made me frustrated enough to return it. When I bought and tried the Instant Pot Air Fryer, I was thrilled with the easily detachable lid. It is important to be able to clean and store the lid separately, which you can do with the Instant Pot version.

The Magic is In the 2 Instant Pot Air Fryer Lids

Basically, the Instant Pot Air Fryer has 2 separate lids. Each lid can perform specific tasks. Here is the breakdown of which lid does which function:

  • Pressure Cooking Lid: pressure cook, steam, saute, slow cook, and sous vide.
  • Air Fryer Lid: air fry, roast, bake, broil, and dehydrate.

Mastering the lids is really quite easy. In the short video below, I show both lids and how you might use them if you were first pressure cooking a chicken and then air frying it after.

Friends, I can tell you that I love my Instant Pot +Air Fryer and would recommend it to anyone who wants to cook fabulous meals, easily, using one appliance. If you have questions about this or anything else that I share, always feel free to leave them in the comments below. As always, thanks so much for stopping by. Wishing you a joyful, blessed, and savvy day!!!

  1. Hi Linda, you basically wipe clean with a damp clean cloth. You wipe the inside grill and remove any food or debris stuck in it. You don’t rinse the inside or outside. It is super easy!!!!

  2. Hey Jaime. I know you mentioned that the air fryer lid was easy to clean. Just wondering how easy and how the instructions say to clean it. I have the original instant pot and really enjoy the fact that I can put the lid in the dishwasher. The air fryer looks as though you cannot do that since it has coils in the lid.

  3. Hi Laura! Oh my goodness, I had NO idea you could get a lid for the 6 quart! Thank you SO much for sharing this! You may have just helped a ton of folks who have (and love) their 6 quarts but want the air fry option. You are a doll for sharing the savvy in the comments. Please let us all know how you like the lid if you end up buying it! XoXo

  4. Hi Jamie! You can actually get an Instant Pot air fryer lid for the 6 quart Instant Pot – and it has the air fryer function buttons on the lid. (It turns your 6 quart Instant Pot into a Duo version !) I have the 6 quart IP – and have been debating about getting the air fryer lid. It has great reviews on Amazon and since you love the air fryer… I think I will get it !
